High-Frequency Material Effects on HDI Formation Project

Wireless/RF and broadband technologies are driving the need for advanced transmission systems.  This joint project with IPC was organized to develop a better understanding of current materials and novel material sets under development, with the objective of determining limitations with respect to future needs of 2 to 38 GHz.  The project team catalogued existing materials and created a Microsoft Excel database of more than 120 laminates, searchable by attribute.  The group also tested materials to determine electrical characteristics, using a common method of testing for electrical performance.  Project work was completed in 2004.
