iNEMI Roadmap Workshop Scheduled June 16 in Europe

Imec will host the meeting in Belgium

Herndon, VA May 11, 2010 The International Electronics Manufacturing Initiative (iNEMI) will review work to date on its 2011 Roadmap at a workshop in Leuven, Belgium, June 16. The one-day meeting, hosted by imec and with support from SMTA Europe, will review information from select technology chapters covered in the roadmap and allow participants to comment and provide input.

"These regional workshops are an important part of the roadmap development process, said Chuck Richardson, iNEMI director of roadmapping. They allow the Technology Working Groups, or TWGs, and the Product Emulator Groups, or PEGs, to test drive their chapters. The groups present highlights of their respective chapters, share projections and conclusions, and identify areas where technology development is needed. We choose technology topics that we think will be of interest in a particular region. Workshop participants not only get a preview of the information, but also provide valuable feedback that helps improve content. This is one of three workshops being conducted internationally this June....

The PEGs and TWGs to be covered are:

Product Emulator Group Reports:

  • Medical Electronics
  • Portable / Consumer
  • Automotive
Technology Working Group Reports:
  • Environmentally Conscious Electronics
  • Solid State Illumination / Photovoltaics
  • Large-Area Flexible Electronics
  • Board Assembly
  • Final Assembly
  • Interconnect Substrates Ceramic
  • Packaging & Component Substrates
  • Interconnect PCB - Organic
  • Electronic Connectors & Cables
  • Energy Storage & Conversion
  • MEMS/Sensors
The all-day meeting will be held at imec in Leuven. Workshop registration is free for iNEMI and imec members and for speakers. The registration fee is US $300, which covers the meeting, including lunch, plus a copy of the 2011 Roadmap CD when it is released to industry in the first quarter of 2011 (a value of US $275). Workshop participants will have online access to hard copies of all presentation materials from the workshop.

Workshops are also scheduled in:
  • North America (June 1)
  • Asia (June 8)
About iNEMI
The International Electronics Manufacturing Initiative’s mission is to forecast and accelerate improvements in the electronics manufacturing industry for a sustainable future.  This industry-led consortium is made up of approximately 100 manufacturers, suppliers, industry associations and consortia, government agencies and universities.  iNEMI roadmaps the needs of the electronics industry, identifies gaps in the technology infrastructure, establishes implementation projects to eliminate these gaps (both business and technical), and stimulates standards activities to speed the introduction of new technologies.  The consortium also works with government agencies, universities and other funding agencies to set priorities for future industry needs and R&D initiatives.  iNEMI is based in Herndon, Virginia (near Washington, D.C.), with regional offices in Shanghai, China; Limerick, Ireland; and Tokyo, Japan.  For additional information about iNEMI, go to http://www.inemi.org.
